Executive Summary
Date: July 2026
Source: PreCrime™ Labs
The period between 1 May and 26 June 2026 represented one of the most attractive windows for cybercriminals seeking to exploit anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI). During this timeframe, Rockstar Games generated sustained global attention through continued discussion of GTA VI’s upcoming release, widespread speculation around pre-orders, pricing, editions, trailers, and launch timelines.
To assess this threat landscape, BforeAI PreCrime™ Labs has identified a large-scale, actively accelerating domain abuse campaign spanning 922 monitored domains targeting “Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)”, “Rockstar Games”, and the associated “Vice City” brand across the monitoring window of 1 May to 26 June 2026. The campaign represents one of the largest pre-release gaming brand abuse datasets observed, driven by massive global consumer anticipation for GTA 6, one of the most commercially significant game launches in history. The objective was to identify malicious infrastructure before activation, enabling proactive disruption ahead of major public milestones.
Of the 922 monitored domains, the registration velocity shows a sharp and sustained acceleration with 354 domains in May 2026 followed by 481 in June 2026. Lastly, 257 of those registered in the final five days (Jun 22–26) alone, indicating the campaign is at peak activity and has not reached its ceiling. The GTA 6 brand string dominates with 610 domains (66%), followed by generic GTA variants (137, 15%) and Vice City (92, 10%).
The fraud taxonomy spans six distinct exploitation vectors, such as brand squatting and typosquats, fake news and information portals, game server and boosting scams, cheat and hack generators, purchase and pre-order fraud, and cryptocurrency ecosystem lures leveraging GTA 6 brand recognition.

Registration Velocity
Registration activity demonstrates a clear and accelerating pattern directly correlated with growing global consumer anticipation for GTA 6. The campaign trajectory is sharply upward with no sign of deceleration within the monitoring window.
Period | Domains | Activity Notes |
|---|---|---|
Pre-May 2026 | 24 | Legacy seed domains registered in 2024–2025. Early brand squats by organised actors monitoring the GTA 6 development timeline. |
May 2026 | 354 | Campaign onset. Broad GTA 6 brand registration various categories across news portals, pre-order lures, cheat sites, Vice City domains. |
Jun 1–7 | 54 | Sustained high tempo. Rockstar Games impersonation cluster and French “.fr” targeting intensify. |
Jun 8–14 | 56 | Continued steady pace. Quenq Vice City multi-TLD sweep registered (8 domains across ".com", ".net", ".org", ".online", ".io", ".city"). |
Jun 15–21 | 114 | Acceleration phase where the crypto lure cluster expands with keywords "gta6coin", "grandtheftoken", "grandtheftsolana", "gta6token" variants. |
Jun 22–26 | 257 | Highest surge noted with 257 domains in 5 days, consisting of 51% of June’s total in the final window. Campaign at peak velocity. Not yet plateaued. |
PreCrime™ Predicts: A clear escalation event coinciding with heightened GTA 6 pre-release speculation and media coverage was noted. At this observed rate, the campaign is projected to surge significantly even after GTA 6’s confirmed release date, with peak velocity expected around any official release announcement. The campaign is ongoing and has not reached its ceiling. Any GTA 6 release date announcement, trailer, or major media event will trigger another registration spike.
Identified Threat Clusters
Analysis of domain naming patterns, registrar co-registration, and TLD selection identifies five distinct operational clusters within the broader campaign.
Cluster 1: GTA 6 Pre-order and Purchase Fraud
A total of 84 domains combine GTA 6 brand strings with purchase, pre-order, boost, and download keywords, targeting consumers seeking to buy the game before release. In this context, the Rockstar Games publisher impersonation is prominent with obvious keyword combinations such as preorder-rockstargames[.]com, rockstargamespreorder[.]com, rockstargamespreorder[.]online, rockstargamespreorder[.]site, all registered via the same registrar cluster.
E-commerce TLDs such as “.shop”, “.store” are deployed specifically to add purchase legitimacy in domains such as gta6ai[.]store, gta6boost[.]store, gta6boosting[.]store, rockstargames[.]store, rockstargamesbr[.]store. Victims can be directed to fake storefronts or Rockstar Social Club impersonation portals to harvest payment card data, gaming account credentials, or prepayment for non-existent game keys.
For example, the domain below impersonates an official GTA VI Android APK download portal, advertising a “Latest Version Free (2026)” despite Grand Theft Auto VI not being officially released for Android, making the offering inherently misleading. Such infrastructure is commonly associated with malware distribution, trojanized APKs, unwanted applications, adware, or phishing campaigns, potentially leading to device compromise, credential theft, or financial fraud.

Sub- Cluster 1.1: Unofficial GTA VI-themed merchandise storefront
Certain sides were offering accessories, merchandise, and skin-accessories displaying Grand Theft Auto VI branding, artwork, and promotional content. The site includes common e-commerce engagement features such as a “Spin to Win” discount wheel, prompting users to submit personal information in exchange for promotional discounts. Another prominent example included a community-driven GTA VI news and content portal, offering updates on trailers, articles, speculation, and game-related developments while monetizing visitor traffic through gaming advertisements and affiliate promotions, leading users to perceive the site as an official or endorsed source of information.

Cluster 2: Crypto, NFT, Token Lures using GTA branding
At least 17 domains combine GTA 6 and Grand Theft Auto brand strings with cryptocurrency, NFT, token, and airdrop keywords, exploiting the brand’s association with money, gambling, and gaming to attract crypto investor victims. The grandtheftairdrop[.]click domain is particularly noteworthy as it combines the Grand Theft Auto pun (“grand theft airdrop”) with the “.click” TLD to mimic a crypto airdrop claim page. Solana and blockchain targeting is explicit with keyword combinations as grandtheftsolana[.]fun, gta6-bsc[.]fun, gta6coin[.]fun, gta6coin[.]pro. The “.fun” and “.lol” TLDs are heavily used here for their low cost and association with meme coins and informal crypto communities.
Sample Domains: grandtheftairdrop[.]click, gta6coin[.]fun, grandtheftoken[.]lol, gta6token[.]fr, grandtheftsolana[.]fun, gta6-bsc[.]fun

Instead of simply asking victims to connect their wallets, some domains host a Web3 gaming platform branded as “Grand Theft Solana (GTS)”, encouraging them to participate in a Solana-based gaming ecosystem featuring leaderboards, missions, and token-based rewards.

Sub-Cluster 2.2: GTA VI Brand abuse across Social Media
When it comes to crypto and token promotions, threat actors often resort to social media to address the masses at scale and garner instant interest. A noteworthy example, amongst others, was identified, an unrelated Solana-based memecoin project named “Grand Paw Felony – Feral City.” Associated domains such as gtapawcity[.]org, and a Telegram community, the post incorporated hashtags including #GTA6, #grandtheftauto, #solana, and #memecoin to maximize visibility among GTA VI enthusiasts.
Rather than direct targeting, the campaign adopts GTA-inspired terminology, reflecting a broader trend of brand-adjacent social media promotion, where high-profile entertainment franchises are exploited to attract users into unrelated Web3 ecosystems. As discussed above on domain based crypto threats, continued growth of these clusters could facilitate future cryptocurrency scams, phishing campaigns, fraudulent token launches, or wallet-draining operations targeting the GTA VI community.

Cluster 3: Fake cheat codes, mod downloads, and money generator sites
47 domains target GTA 6 players seeking in-game cheats, mods, money generators, and trainer tools, a longstanding and highly effective gaming fraud category. GTA’s history of widely used cheat codes and the existence of a modding community for GTA V makes cheat-site credibility high for GTA 6 victims who are unfamiliar with the new release.
Domain sample: cheatcodesgta6[.]com, gta-6-cheats[.]net, freegta6[.]xyz, gta6-modlab[.]com
The example below shows 41400 downloads already for different mod versions hosted on a GTA6 branded domain across categories such as vehicle, weapon, script, gameplay, player, and map. By promoting downloadable GTA VI mods before an official modding ecosystem exists, the website may mislead users into downloading unverified or potentially malicious files from unofficial sources. Mod distribution platforms are frequently abused to deliver trojanized installers, malware, credential stealers, and unwanted software, particularly during high-profile game launches.

Another example where the domain gta-6-money[.]com promotes a commercial product titled “GTA 6 Money”, claiming to teach users how to profit from the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI through investments and pre-launch strategies. Such domains may mislead users into believing the product is officially endorsed or affiliated with Rockstar Games, and normalizing unofficial monetization schemes surrounding the game’s release can lead to financial losses seeking earning opportunities.

Cluster 4: Trademark domains promoting towards misleading content
A significant portion of domains were found to be registered for brand infringement purposes while having no association with gaming or GTA in particular. The domain below leveraged the “GTA6APK” branding despite not offering a Grand Theft Auto VI APK or official Rockstar content. Instead, the website operates as a Bangladesh-focused online gaming and gambling portal, promoting fantasy sports, casino-style games, live cricket betting, and related gaming services. The use of “GTA6APK” in the domain name appears intended to capitalize on search traffic and consumer interest surrounding GTA VI, despite the site’s unrelated content.
Users search for official GTA VI mobile releases or APKs, resulting in consumer confusion and unintended exposure to gambling-related services. This type of brand-adjacent domain also demonstrates how high-profile game releases are exploited for SEO manipulation, traffic diversion, and unauthorized commercial gain, increasing the likelihood of future abuse through malware distribution, fake APK downloads, or phishing campaigns targeting the gaming community.

Cluster 5: Sponsored GTA VI Pre-Order Advertisement Campaign
A paid advertising campaign was identified promoting GTA VI pre-sale offers through an unverifiable domain. The advertisements claim to sell “Primary Accounts” for GTA VI through WhatsApp, and immediate download availability upon the game’s official launch. The campaign consists of multiple advertisement variants, indicating active testing and promotion through a social media advertising platform to increase reach and engagement among GTA VI enthusiasts.
Unlike traditional phishing campaigns that rely on organic discovery, paid advertisements significantly amplify the visibility and perceived legitimacy of unauthorized GTA VI offers by placing them directly in users’ feeds. Such campaigns increase the likelihood of consumer fraud, counterfeit digital product sales, payment scams, and unauthorized account reselling, particularly among users seeking discounted pre-orders or early access.

Geographic Targeting
Country-code TLDs and language-specific domain naming patterns reveal deliberate multi-market targeting beyond the English-speaking default.
Region | Evidence |
|---|---|
France | 29 “.fr” domains, example rockstargame-fr[.]com, gta-6-france[.]fr, gta6-fr[.]fr forming the largest geographic cluster. |
Russia | 13 “.ru” domains including gta6[.]ru variants |
Germany | 7 “.de” domains including gta6-tipps[.]de (tips), gta6karte[.]de (map), gta-vicecity[.]de. |
United Kingdom | 3 “.co.uk” + 3 “.uk” domains targeting the UK specific gaming market. |
Canada | 5 “.ca” domains |
Brazil | gta6-aberto[.]*, gta6-carrinhoaberto[.]*, descargargtavi[.]store including Portuguese-language lures, rockstargames-br[.]com, rockstargamesbr[.]com |
Spanish-speaking | descargargtavi[.]store (where “descargar” means download in Spanish) targeting Latin American gaming enthusiasts |
Recommendations
For gaming community and GTA-enthusiasts:
Purchase GTA VI only through official channels, including the Rockstar Games Launcher, PlayStation Store and other verified retailers.
Avoid domains advertising early access, beta versions, leaked builds, free downloads, giveaways, or unofficial pre-orders, as these are commonly abused for phishing and malware distribution.
Do not download unofficial launchers, installers, mods, cracks, or patches from newly registered domains or social media advertisements.
Keep endpoint protection and browser security updated to reduce exposure to drive-by downloads and fake update campaigns.
Treat social media advertisements, Discord invites, Telegram channels, YouTube descriptions, and influencer giveaways offering exclusive GTA VI access with caution.
From organizational standpoint:
Initiate urgent takedown procedures for all confirmed Rockstar Games publisher impersonation domains, particularly preorder-rockstargames[.]com, rockstargamespreorder[.]com/online/site, and the broader rockstargame[.] cluster*
Publish consumer advisories across Rockstar’s official communication channels emphasizing that GTA VI pre-orders are available only through authorised platforms.
Register defensive domain variants across high-risk TLDs including .shop, .store, .online, and .fr before official release announcements.
Implement continuous NRD monitoring for keywords including GTA VI, Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games, Vice City, Leonida, Lucia, Jason, and related permutations, with heightened monitoring around trailers and release announcements.
Coordinate with browser vendors and Safe Browsing providers to flag confirmed phishing infrastructure for faster user protection.
Expand monitoring beyond newly registered domains to include social media platforms, paid advertisements, messaging applications (Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp), and influencer promotions abusing Rockstar Games branding.
PreCrime™ Predicts
Threat actors may increasingly use AI-generated domains and landing pages to create realistic promotional content requiring minimal effort to scale. Rather than relying solely on GTA VI keywords, adversaries are expected to increasingly impersonate commonly occurring keywords throughout GTA releases as they remain relevant throughout the game’s lifecycle and can facilitate broader credential theft campaigns. With periods of peak public attention to maximize victim engagement, the campaigns are expected to expand significantly beyond current scale.
